Although you have retired from active management of day-to-day operations, you still come to your office every day. What advice would you give young people starting out today? I would tell them to start where they are with what they have and that the secret of a big success is starting with a small success and dreaming bigger and bigger dreams.
So many young people start out by dreaming of creating a multimillion-dollar corporation. For it is still true, and has always been true, that there is no defense against an excellence that meets a pressing public need. You became famous in the publishing industry for starting a number of magazines, including Black World and Jet, and for always starting them in the month of November. Will there be any more magazines and any more launches in Novembers? November was my lucky month.
